Lean duplex is a specification duplex steel grade. Duplex is a special combination of ferratic and austenitic steels in equal mixtures to provide an alloy of chromium, nickel and molybdenum that has the best of ferrite and austenitic steel. So what is Lean Duplex Stainless Steel? It is not an actual mixture of both steel types, but it has the properties of both steel types. Lean Duplex Material can exhibit the weaknesses from both ferrite and austenitic types of steel as well.
Lean Duplex Stainless Steel Uses are very less demanding but are very specific. Lean grade material is needed for applications which demand very high strength such as building construction sites. Due to the less carbon content and high chromium content, welding of lean duplex stainless steel is much easier than the other grades. Lean Duplex Stainless Steel Grades include LDX2101, DX2304, EDX3304 and LDX2404. All of them could be used interchangeably but with some specific applications.
